Fund Raising
Now we come to the bit about money:
Unfortunately we all need money, and here at Woodland Cat Rescue, we're no different.
We have around 20 cats living here at any time and that number of feline mouths consume an alarming quantity of cat food; proprietary canned food and dry biscuits and occasionally fresh food for a special treat. Our weekly food bill runs at around £40 each week.
All cats require the attention of a vet from time to time. Older cats like ours, often require more trips to the vet. Not surprisingly, the need for specialist diagnosis and treatment increases with a cat's age and regrettably (although inevitably) we have had plenty of experience of the more serious conditions like tumours, blindness, kidney and heart disorders to name a few. It's a sad fact of life that cats, just like humans, sometimes fall foul of these things and here at Woodland Cat Rescue we acknowledge our responsibility to give our cats the best treatment possible whenever necessary.
Naturally enough, our monthly veterinary bills reflect this frequent need for treatment and usually amount to four to five hundred pounds. On a number of occasions in the past, we have known the bill to top the £1,000 mark. We bet you can now hear the violin lament playing in the background!
As you may imagine, we could not operate as we do without the generous support from many people. We have a group who help with fund-raising by organising and doing collections, car-boot stalls and the Haymarket stall in Norwich. Others make cakes and other things for us to sell during our very popular Saturday Garden Sales. These are held here at 83 Woodland Road the first Saturday in the month from April through to September (inclusive). We have all sorts of things for sale, from plants and bric-a-brac to cakes and books. Come along sometime, you're sure to find something you like!
